Types of Contingent workforce

 Contingent workforce generally falls into three categories:

a) The largest Group: these represents approximately two third of all contingent workers, they are those who want permernet employment, but have not been able to secure such position.

b) Temporary Temporaries: may have been laid off or contracted out and can not regain permanent employment. Some how have out dated skills, other are young people who lack experience. These people accept contract work to meet basic economic needs, gain work experience and find leads to more permanent employment.

c) Free Agents: they are smaller but growing cadre of professional contingent workers. They are less interested in permanent employment and passes valued competencies that makes them confident in their independence. Free agents are less interested in permanent employment and posses valued competencies that make them confident in their career success depends on maintaing up to date knowledge and skills rather than a paternalistic employment relationship. These group are typically found in technical fields such as accounting or information system management etc. These professional contingents have not completely adapted to organizational life.
